I’m not the only one blogging about this as Cally, our Community Engagement Officer has her own blog but I thought it was worth adding my views of the work going on. So firstly, a tree and shrub clearance from the Upper Grosvenor entrance, what a difference to what was a very dark area.
It also includes the areas by the railway, revealing years of coppicing.
Views into the past above the Dripping Wells/ grottoes where digging has revealed the Victorian engineering that makes the wells drip, with water being fed from the Jackswood Spring. The work so far has helped the wells drip, but there is still further work to be done.
The other project in progress at the moment is moving the electricity substation…
which has meant moving the park-keepers to a temporary home by the Oast House.
A lovely contrast of old and new.
The Friends of Grosvenor and Hilbert Park will continue to support and liaise during all the Heritage Lottery works. Plans for our community orchard will start soon… although we did a bit of scavenging yesterday and came home with some blackberries and a few red apples. One of many things to enjoy in the park as we head towards autumn.
